Tactacam Reveal vs Moultrie Edge: cameras and plans side by side

We haven't tested these units; scores come from published specs and the rubric on our How We Choose page. Every spec below links to the maker's page or the Amazon listing, and every plan detail comes from the makers' own plan pages. We don't print plan prices, because they change; the pages are linked.

Which models we compared, and why

"Tactacam Reveal" and "Moultrie Edge" are camera families, not single cameras. On Amazon, when we checked on 2026-09-19, the Reveal family included the Reveal X Gen 3.0, the Reveal Ultra and the Reveal Pro 4.0 Solar; the Moultrie side included the Edge 3, the Edge Solar and the older Edge 2 Pro. Moultrie's own camera menu lists the Edge 4, Edge 4 Solar, Edge 3, Edge 3 Pro and Edge Solar (Moultrie lineup).

We paired them the way a buyer would:

• The budget low-glow matchup: Tactacam Reveal X Gen 3.0 vs Moultrie Edge 3. This is the main event.
• The no-glow matchup: Tactacam Reveal Ultra vs Moultrie Edge 2 Pro, the only no-glow Edge we could confirm on Amazon.

The two solar models, the Reveal Pro 4.0 Solar and the Edge Solar, are ranked with the rest of the field in our best cellular trail cameras roundup.

The four cameras side by side

A dash means the figure isn't in our sourced spec rows for that camera. One to note: the X Gen 3.0's GPS row is blank here, but Tactacam's product page lists built-in GPS. The Edge 2 Pro's trigger and power blanks, and the Edge 3's warranty, are real gaps: we couldn't find those figures where we checked.

Networks and signal: a tie

Both systems are built to find a signal on their own. Moultrie says the Edge 3 auto-connects to all four major networks. Tactacam's Reveal cameras use an integrated SIM with automatic carrier selection across major LTE networks. The Edge 2 Pro's listing says it auto-connects to nationwide 4G LTE. None of the makers publishes a minimum-signal spec, so neither brand can promise coverage at your feeder. Check your phone at the exact spot before you buy either one.

Night images and flash

In the budget matchup, both cameras use a low-glow flash. Moultrie claims 100 ft of flash and detection range and a 0.5 s trigger for the Edge 3; Tactacam claims 96 ft of flash range, 96 ft-plus detection and a sub-half-second trigger for the X Gen 3.0. Those are the makers' claims and they're close enough that neither is a reason to choose.

Resolution is described differently, which makes it hard to compare from specs: Moultrie lists 40MP photos, Tactacam lists 4K or 2.5K photos, and both record 1080p video. Megapixel counts on trail cameras don't tell you how sharp a hog looks at 60 feet at night, and we haven't found a side-by-side test we'd trust, so we treat image quality as a draw on paper. Moultrie publishes a 50-degree field of view for the Edge 3; Tactacam's X 3.0 spec table doesn't list one.

Power and storage

• Tactacam Reveal X Gen 3.0: 12 AA batteries (not included) plus a 12V DC input for an external battery or solar panel. The Amazon listing claims 6+ months of battery life. 8GB of internal storage with an optional SD card slot.
• Moultrie Edge 3: a USB-C power input, and solar power reporting when paired with Moultrie solar packs. Moultrie's spec table doesn't list battery type or runtime. Built-in memory, with no SD card required.

Edge to Tactacam on published power detail: you know what goes in it and how to add external power. The Edge 3's no-SD design is simpler, but its power spec is the one gap in an otherwise clear spec table.

Plans compared

This is where the two brands differ most. Neither offers a free tier. Here's how each structures its plans, from the makers' plan pages (Moultrie, Tactacam):

Two ways to read that table. On photo count, Moultrie's entry tier is bigger: 1,000 images a month is about 33 a day, against about 8 a day on Tactacam's 250-photo Starter. A camera over a busy feeder that fires 15 times a night needs about 450 photos a month, which fits Moultrie Standard and overruns Tactacam Starter by mid-month. On flexibility, Tactacam wins: no activation fee, no contract, and a pause button for the months you don't hunt or trap. Which matters more depends on whether your cameras run all year (hog control often does) or only in season.

Feeder control: Moultrie's real edge

For this hub, the biggest difference isn't in the camera at all. Moultrie's Bluetooth feeder timers, such as the Pro Hunter III kit, offer "cellular control when paired with an Edge 3 Series camera" ( Moultrie). That means you can see hogs on the feeder at dusk and change the feeding schedule from your phone, in one app. Moultrie's plans page lists separate Feed Hub plans for feed on demand, feed levels, schedules and clog alerts, so confirm which plan covers your setup.

We found no equivalent feeder integration in Tactacam's pages. If you run a Tactacam, your feeder runs on its own timer and you change it at the feeder. The no-glow matchup: Reveal Ultra vs Edge 2 Pro

If the camera watches a trap near a road, a lease line or a neighbor, no-glow matters because a no-glow flash is designed not to be seen when it fires. Here the two brands aren't close.

• Tactacam Reveal Ultra: switch between no-glow and low-glow in the app (Tactacam claims 80 ft on no-glow, 96 ft on low-glow), 16GB of internal storage plus an SD slot, an LCD screen per the listing, live streaming with an added subscription, and Active GPS with battery backup that alerts you if the camera moves more than half a mile. It's the best theft protection in either lineup.
• Moultrie Edge 2 Pro: a no-glow flash, 1440p video with audio and AI false-trigger filtering, per the Amazon listing, at a budget-tier price. But it isn't on Moultrie's current camera menu, and we couldn't find its trigger speed or power specs in any source we could check.

Warranty and lineup

Tactacam lists a 1-year warranty counted from activation on both Reveal models here. Moultrie's Edge 3 product page doesn't state a warranty term, so ask before you buy if it matters to you. On lineup stability, the Edge 3 is a current Moultrie model and the Edge 2 Pro isn't; the Reveal X Gen 3.0 and Ultra both have current product pages on Tactacam's site.

What matters most for hog control

A deer camera can come down when deer season ends. Hog control doesn't have a season: TPWD says that on private property there are "no required means and methods of take, state bag or possession limits, or closed seasons (hunting hours)" for species outside the regulated categories, which is where feral hogs sit (TPWD Outdoor Annual). If your cameras watch traps and feeders all year, three things move up the list:

• Photo cap over pause button. Tactacam's pause is worth less on a camera that never comes down, and Moultrie's 1,000-image entry tier goes further on a busy site.
• Power you don't have to service. Year-round cameras eat batteries. The Tactacam 12V DC input or a solar model (see our full camera rankings) cuts trips in.
• Theft protection at trap sites. A camera that sits at a trap for months is exposed for months; the Ultra's Active GPS is built for that.

Choose Tactacam if, choose Moultrie if

Choose Tactacam Reveal if:

• You want to pause the plan in the months you're not trapping or hunting.
• You want a 12V DC input to run off an external battery or panel.
• The camera guards a trap or sits where it could be stolen (the Ultra's Active GPS).
• You need no-glow from a current model (the Ultra).

Choose Moultrie Edge if:

• You run Moultrie feeders and want to change feed times from your phone.
• You want more photos in the entry plan (1,000 a month vs 250).
• You prefer built-in memory with no SD card to manage.
• You run cameras year-round, so a pause button matters less than the photo cap.
