What $1,000 to $2,000 buys for hog hunting
This is the tier where a thermal stops being a feeder tool and starts covering the whole place. Below $1,000, the thermal scopes we could verify were mostly 256 sensors behind 15 to 25 mm lenses. Here, 35 mm lenses are the floor for the top picks and one reaches 50 mm. That roughly doubles the pixels on a hog at 100 yards, which is the difference between "something warm by the fence" and "a boar, broadside, clear of the calves."
The money buys other things too. The leaders publish 9 to 10 hours of runtime, IP67 or IPX7 sealing and a 6000 J recoil rating. Two scopes here put a laser rangefinder and ballistic calculator in the body. One puts a 640 sensor in the tier. And the warranties get longer: five years from ATN and RIX, and five with registration from Pulsar.

Pixels on a hog in this tier
The formula uses the makers' published pixel pitch and lens: inches per pixel = distance (yd) × 0.036 × pitch (µm) ÷ lens (mm). Divide a hog's length by that. We use a 60-inch hog, the top of the Missouri Department of Conservation's range for feral hogs, which it lists at "to 5 feet" long (MDC field guide). Smaller hogs get proportionally fewer pixels.

This is illustrative math, not a test. Three points stand out. First, the ThOR 6 Elite, RIX S3, oneleaf Mars and Thermion all put about 49 pixels across a big hog at 100 yards; they differ in how much ground they show around it. The oneleaf's 640 sensor shows 66 feet of ground at that distance to the others' 39. Second, the Talion and Sightmark trade some detail for a wider view, which helps on close, moving hogs. Third, Sightmark's 13° figure doesn't say which direction it's measured; the pitch-and-lens math gives 10.7° across and about 13.4° corner to corner, so it's likely the diagonal. Holosun doesn't publish a pixel pitch, so its row is worked from its stated view instead.
Why the ThOR 6 Elite leads this list
Straight answer: on our rubric, the Pulsar Thermion 2 XQ50 Pro scores 8.6 and the ATN ThOR 6 Elite LRF 8.5. The Thermion is our #1 thermal for hogs across all budgets, and if you want the single highest-scoring scope, buy it.
This page asks a narrower question: the most scope for the money under $2,000. For that, we weigh the overall score and the value-within-tier score together, and the ThOR 6 Elite comes out ahead. It sits a tenth below the top overall score and a full point ahead of the Thermion on value (8.5 to 7.5). The oneleaf Mars scores higher still on value (9), but its 8.1 overall reflects a 5-hour battery and a three-year warranty. For its money, the ThOR adds a built-in 1,000 m rangefinder (the maker's claim) feeding a ballistic calculator, the lowest NETD in the tier (≤15 mK), a 12 µm sensor, a 1920x1080 display, 64 GB of storage and a five-year warranty with no registration step. The Thermion puts the same detail on the hog through a bigger lens and wins on battery design and waterproofing, but it sat at the very top edge of this tier when we checked, and it has no rangefinder. The two are close enough that we compare them head to head in Pulsar Thermion vs ATN ThOR.
How we picked
We took every thermal riflescope in our registry that Amazon listed in the $1,000 to $2,000 tier when we checked on September 19, 2026, and read each maker's spec page and warranty terms. Each is scored on our published thermal rubric: sensor and lens for identifying a hog at feeder-to-field distance (30%), usability at night (20%), battery and power (15%), durability (15%), warranty and support (10%) and value within its tier (10%). Detection and rangefinder distances are the maker's claims.
We haven't tested these units; scores come from published specs and the rubric on our How We Choose page. A blank spec costs points: no spec, no score. One near miss: AGM sells 384 versions of its Rattler V2 (25 mm and 35 mm) that would fit this tier on the maker's pricing, but we couldn't confirm Amazon sells them, so they aren't ranked here.

1. ATN ThOR 6 Elite LRF 384 3.5-28x
The fullest spec sheet in the tier and the best value in it. A 384x288, 12 µm, ≤15 mK sensor behind a 35 mm F/1.0 lens; a built-in rangefinder (1,000 m, ±1 m, the maker's claim) with a ballistic calculator and six ballistic profiles; a 0.49 in 1920x1080 OLED; 64 GB with Recoil Activated Video; IP67, 6000 J, -22°F to 131°F; and five years of warranty. Two 18650s give about 9 hours, but only one is replaceable in the field, and you'll need to buy 30 mm rings. The 3.5x base means a 7.5° view, which is narrow for hogs inside about 75 yards.
2. Pulsar Thermion 2 XQ50 Pro
The highest score in the tier (8.6) and the most rounded scope here. The 50 mm F/1.0 lens makes up for 17 µm pixels, putting about as much detail on a hog as the 35 mm, 12 µm scopes. An internal APS5 plus a swappable external APS2 give up to 10 hours at 22°C, with USB-C power delivery on top. It's IPX7, rated to 6000 J, and fits standard 30 mm rings, with five zero profiles and 10 reticles. It's the heaviest scope in the tier at 31.7 oz, it has no rangefinder, and its 3x base is slow on hogs in close brush. Warranty: three years, five with registration.
3. oneleaf.ai Mars MT1000LRF (35 mm)
The only 640x512 sensor in the tier, and it comes with a rangefinder (5.5 to 1,300 yards, the maker's claim), a ballistic calculator with seven profiles, IP67 and 6000 J, in a 19.4 oz scope. The 2x base and wide view let you watch a whole sounder, and oneleaf offers 50 mm and 75 mm lenses if you later need more reach. It scores the tier's best sensor mark (9 of 10) and value mark. Two things hold it back: about 5 hours per removable 18650, and a three-year warranty against five on the ThOR and RIX.
4. Pulsar Talion XQ35 Pro
The close-country pick. A 2.5x base and 10.7° x 8° view make close, moving hogs easier to follow than on any 3x-plus scope here. It's magnesium-bodied, IPX7, rated to 6000 J, and runs up to 9 hours on the APS 5T pack plus USB-C. The costs are detail at distance (17 µm pixels behind 35 mm), a top operating limit of +40°C where the Thermion lists +50°C, and Weaver-style Talion mounts rather than standard rings. Warranty matches the Thermion.
5. RIX Storm S3 384 (35 mm)
A light, well-warrantied 384. At about 0.97 lb it's the lightest 12 µm, 35 mm scope in the tier, with <25 mK NETD, a 6000 J rating, five zero profiles, picture-in-picture, a QD mount in the box and a five-year warranty. The limits are about 4.5 hours per 18650 at 72°F and no IP rating on RIX's S3 page. Carry spares and keep it out of heavy rain until RIX publishes a rating.
6. Holosun DRS-TH
A different tool: a red-dot reflex sight with a thermal image overlaid, for fast, close shots. Holosun lists a 256 sensor behind a 25 mm F1.1 lens, a 1x reflex window with 1x, 3x and 5x thermal zoom, IP67, a 7075-T6 aluminum housing and two removable 18350s for up to 10 hours in observation mode. It ranks low on a hog-ID rubric because <50 mK sensitivity and a 256 sensor limit it to close range, and Holosun's page lists no recoil rating or warranty length. If your hogs are inside 100 yards in thick cover, it's worth a look.
7. Sightmark Wraith Mini 2-16x35 Thermal
A compact 384 with a 2x base, a .308 recoil rating and five weapon profiles, which suits someone moving one scope between rifles. The two CR123A cells give 3.5 hours recording and 4.4 hours viewing, the shortest runtime here, and <40 mK NETD with IPX6 water resistance both trail the tier. Sightmark's page doesn't state the refresh rate. Plan on a USB power bank for a full night.

What to look for between $1,000 and $2,000
- Pitch and lens together. 12 µm behind 35 mm and 17 µm behind 50 mm land in the same place on a hog. 17 µm behind 35 mm gives less detail and a wider view.
- Base magnification against your closest shots. A 2x to 2.5x base (oneleaf, Talion, Sightmark) is easier on hogs that come in close. A 3x to 3.5x base (Thermion, ThOR, RIX S3) is narrower up close and better at field distance.
- Battery architecture, not just hours. The Thermion pairs an internal pack with a swappable external one; the ThOR has one replaceable cell of two; the RIX S3 and oneleaf run single swappable 18650s at 4.5 and 5 hours. Count on spares for anything under about 8 hours.
- Published ratings. The Thermion, Talion, ThOR and oneleaf publish both a waterproof rating and 6000 J. RIX publishes 6000 J but no IP rating for the S3; Sightmark lists IPX6 and .308.
- The mount you'll use. Thermion and ThOR use 30 mm rings (ATN's aren't included), the Talion uses Pulsar's Weaver-style mounts, and the RIX, oneleaf, Holosun and Sightmark mount to Picatinny directly.
- Warranty terms, including registration. ATN and RIX: five years. Pulsar: three, or five if you register. oneleaf: three. Holosun's page doesn't state one.
Is a rangefinder worth it for hogs?
It depends on where you shoot. At a feeder, you know the distance before dark and can zero for it, so a built-in rangefinder adds little. Across an open field at night, where a hog could be at 120 or 220 yards and there's nothing to judge by, a rangefinder feeding a ballistic calculator removes a real source of misses. In this tier you can have one without leaving it: the ThOR 6 Elite (1,000 m) and oneleaf Mars (to 1,300 yards), both the makers' claims. Pulsar's Thermion 2 LRF adds ranging too, but a full tier up; it's on our all-budget thermal ranking.

Mistakes in this tier
- Paying for a 640 and zooming it like a 384. A 640 with the same pitch and lens puts the same pixels on the hog; its gift is the wider view. Use it.
- Buying the longest detection claim. These scopes claim from about 1,280 m (Sightmark) to 2,750 m (ATN). Hog shots happen at a fraction of that.
- Skipping registration. Pulsar's five-year warranty depends on it.
- Forgetting rings. ATN doesn't include them with the ThOR 6 Elite.
- Running a 4 to 5 hour scope on one cell. The RIX S3 and oneleaf need a spare or USB-C power for an all-night sit.
- Treating the scope as the plan. A good thermal takes hogs a few at a time. The rest of the plan, trapping whole sounders, is in how to get rid of feral hogs.
